Field Supervisor

General Description: The Field Supervisor provides superior supervision, leadership & delivery of installation and startup of plant, mill and manufacturing systems possible for our clients in the most cost-effective manner.

Qualifications:

  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to communicate with clients, WCIS office team, and all field crews
  • Must be able to report billing of time and material
  • Must be able to complete change orders, read instruction & safety manuals
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints
  • Proficiency with estimating is required
  • Must have experience in the installation of large commercial manufacturing equipment
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Must have full use of the body and all senses to be able to work outdoors in all types of weather
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and be able to climb and balance on equipment or ladders. Must be able to move in tight spaces and bend and stoop around equipment. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have good eye sight, depth perception and an accurate sense of hearing.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Authority

  • Full operating authority to fulfill the responsibilities of the position as described in this Job Description
  • May delegate portions of this authority to direct subordinates for executing directives and enforcing Policies and Procedures
  • Retains total responsibility and accountability for the success of the field operations assigned
  • Has the authority, with the concurrence of the General Manager and/or Human Resources Manager, when necessary, to discipline, to dismiss, and to change duties of subordinate employees and authority to organize, discipline, direct, coordinate and evaluate production personnel
  • Hiring and firing must be approved by the General Manager and/or Human Resource Manager. New positions and compensation must be approved by the Management
  • Access to confidential financial, business development, estimating, marketing and sales information

Duties

  • Manage his/her Lead-men or crews to complete daily work as assigned
  • Ensure recording of labor & equipment time on each job accurately and compare to the estimate
  • Review all contracts and supporting documents prior to approval
  • Ensure the project is progressing on time and on budget
  • Anticipate the need for personnel, supplies and equipment needs, and communicate them to the appropriate people as appropriate
  • Ensure work areas are maintained in a safe condition
  • Ensure that areas are picked up at the end of each day and the end of the job
  • Spot check the safety of crew(s) regularly
  • Act as a quality control manager on all assigned projects
  • Act as the onsite safety representative
  • Make sure that company provided tools and equipment are cared for properly
  • Complete all work orders and change orders with final dollar amount allocated to the job
  • Inform management of any problems in the performance of personnel
  • Notify the Project Manager of anticipated equipment, personnel & material needs or changes at least 72-hours in advance in non-emergency situations
  • Assist other employees with technical knowledge
  • All paperwork (daily reports, time records, change orders, invoices, and credit card receipts) is turned in daily to appropriate people
  • Ensure that the appropriate team members know the status and estimated completion dates to allow timely invoicing, and follow-up
  • Secure and maintain all WCIS proprietary information or systems
  • Other duties as assigned

Measures of Performance

The Field Supervisor’s work will be deemed to be acceptable when:

  • Jobs are completed on time and on budget >95% of the time
  • Customer complaints are kept at a minimum and resolved quickly
  • Time reports are turned in daily and are completed accurately
  • Must ensure that weekly safety & daily tailgate safety meetings are held and documented at each location
  • Ensure that all assigned staff has a productivity billing rate of at minimum 75% of their time directly to a job each quarter
    • Target efficiency is 85% billable time
    • Onsite 1-hour work/1-hour pay (staff should be 100% billable)
  • All projects have fully completed change orders for work scope, before the start of said work
  • Maintains good working relationships with clients, direct reports and coworkers

Work Environment:

Construction site and sawmill environments: Involves up to 50+ hours per week. General working hours are 6:00am – 4:30pm Monday through Friday, days worked can vary greatly. These hours and days may change based on work load and special events/meetings.
